Pete Sampras Bio

A native of Southern California, Pete Sampras held the record for most career Grand Slam singles titles (14) until it was broken by Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2009. Arguably the greatest grass-court player of all time, Sampras won Wimbledon a record seven times between 1993 and 2000, and was the year-end world No. 1 six straight times, an Open era record. An all-court player with one of the greatest serves in history, his early career was defined by his rivalry with his countryman Andre Agassi, whose flash and flamboyance stood in stark contrast to Sampras' understated, methodical style. Sampras, a 2007 inductee to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, is married to American actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras; they have two sons. (as of October 9, 2009)
