Maria Kirilenko had her breakthrough run in Beijing in 2005, where she defeated Maria Sharapova in the semifinals and went on to win the title. Since then she has won four more titles, including three in 2008. A slender player who relies on her all-court acumen rather than pure power, Kirilenko's best major result was a quarterfinal performance at the 2010 Australian Open. A year later, she partnered Victoria Azarenka to advance to the Australian Open doubles final; the pair were voted WTA fan favorite doubles team. Kirilenko is a fan of classical music and was the first woman to wear the adidas  by Stella McCartney line before she was succeeded by Caroline Wozniacki. In 2009, she posed for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue alongside fellow pros Tatiana Golovin and Daniela Hantuchova.
